Solacom sends each call at a position to RockRecorder over SIP, with everyone on the call mixed into one stream. RockRecorder records it with the caller's name and number, and creates a channel for each position automatically.
You need to be a SuperAdmin, and the server needs the Solacom license. A server has one Solacom interface.
1. Add the Solacom interface
- Open the user menu (top right) and go to Administration > Recording > Recording Interfaces.
- Click Add recording interface.
- Give it a name, choose Recorder Type: Solacom, and pick the Network Interface (NIC) Solacom reaches the server on.
- Click Create Recording Interface.
On the interface's Settings tab, under SIP and RTP ports:
| Setting | What it is | Default |
|---|---|---|
| SIP port | Where Solacom sends the calls to record (SIP over UDP or TCP) | 5060 |
| RTP ports | The range the audio arrives on, one port per call | 20000 to 21000 |
Click Save, then Apply. Allow the SIP port (UDP and TCP) and the RTP ports (UDP) through any firewall between Solacom and RockRecorder.
There's no Channels tab: a channel is created automatically for each position the first time it records.
2. Point Solacom at RockRecorder
In Solacom's recording settings, set the SIP recording target to the RockRecorder server's address and the SIP port above. RockRecorder expects:
- One SIP call per recorded call, with SDP in the INVITE, ended with a BYE.
- Everyone on the call mixed into one audio stream, in G.711 ยต-law (A-law and G.729 also work).
- The position's number (DN) in the address the call is sent to, for example
sip:5551060003@recorder.
3. Name the positions
Each channel is named after its position DN. To use your own names, go to Administration > Alias Banks > Solacom alias bank, add each Position DN and its Alias (such as PSAP Console 1), or import a CSV, and click Apply. New recordings from that position use the name.
To give a group every position, including ones that record for the first time later, turn on Every Solacom channel on the group.
4. Check it's working
Take a call on a position. When it ends, it appears on the Recordings page under the position's channel, with the caller's name and number as the alias. Statistics shows Calls Answered by Position.
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| No calls arrive | Solacom's recording target points at the right address and SIP port, and the firewall allows it. In the log (/opt/rockrecorder/logs/solacom.log) each call shows as an INVITE |
Calls are turned away (503 in the log) |
Record on this interface is off, 50 calls are already recording, or the RTP port range is used up |
| Calls arrive but are silent | The RTP ports are blocked |
Cisco BiB and Solacom can both use port 5060 if they're on different network cards. On the same network card, give them RTP port ranges that don't overlap.
