RockRecorder records ETC audio channels from the multicast RTP the ETC gateway sends on your network. When the gateway sends talker aliases, each recording gets the alias too.
You need to be a SuperAdmin, and the server needs the ETC license.
1. Add the ETC interface
- Open the user menu (top right) and go to Administration > Recording > Recording Interfaces.
- Click Add recording interface.
- Give it a name, choose Recorder Type: ETC, and click Create Recording Interface.
ETC always listens on the server's default network card, whichever Network Interface (NIC) you pick on this form. If the server has more than one network card, make sure the default one is on the ETC network (
default_interfaceunder[network]in/etc/rockrecorder/rockrecorder.toml), and restart the ETC recorder after changing it.
2. Add the channels
On the Channels tab, add each channel with its Channel name, Multicast address (224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255) and Port, and click Add. Each port can only be used by one channel on the server.
For many channels, use CSV > Download template, fill it in (channel, multicast, port, enabled), then CSV > Import from CSV….
Then click Apply at the top of the interface page.
3. Choose how recordings are split
By default, each transmission is recorded until the gateway stops sending for a second. If your gateway sends audio all the time, turn on voice activation on the Settings tab, under Voice activation (VOX):
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Record only when there's sound | Off: everything the gateway sends is recorded. On: only when it's louder than the level below | Off |
| Start recording above | How loud it must get to start recording (-60 to -20 dB) | -45 dB |
| Stop after this much quiet | Pauses shorter than this stay in one recording (1 to 10 seconds) | 2 seconds |
Click Save, then Apply.
4. Check it's working
Key up on a channel. The recording appears on the Recordings page when the transmission ends, with the alias when the gateway sends one.
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| Nothing records | The gateway's multicast address and port, the switches delivering multicast to the server's default network card, and that you clicked Apply |
| Recordings run on in 60-second parts | The gateway sends audio all the time: turn on Record only when there's sound, or raise Start recording above if noise keeps it recording |
| Speech is missed | Lower Start recording above |
| One transmission is split into several | Raise Stop after this much quiet |
| Very short key-ups are missing | Recordings under 0.8 seconds aren't kept |
ETC audio can be µ-law, A-law or G.729; other formats are ignored and logged. The recorder's log is /opt/rockrecorder/logs/etc.log.
